Q. What is El Paso Giving Day?

El Paso Giving Day is an online giving event that provides the El Paso community to give back. El Paso Giving Day is an initiative of Paso del Norte Foundation.

Q. When is El Paso Giving Day?

El Paso Giving Day is on November 15th, 2018 from midnight to 11:59 PM.

Q. What are the benefits of participating in El Paso Giving Day?

Nonprofits have an opportunity to increase their donor bases, to learn how to use online and social media tools to enhance public outreach and have the chance to earn prizes based on their participation in El Paso Giving Day.

Q. How do nonprofits get involved in El Paso Giving Day?

Nonprofits can register to participate from June 22th until September 30th.

Q. Does it cost money for a nonprofit to participate in El Paso Giving Day? How much of each donation will nonprofits receive?

It does not cost anything to participate! The nonprofit will receive the donations, minus the online processing fees of 4.7% (unless their donors opt to cover these fees). In 2016, 88% of donors covered the online processing fees. These fees cover the credit card processing and El Paso Giving Day website’s platform, which makes El Paso Giving Day possible.

Q. Do all donations have to go through El Paso Giving Day’s website, or can donors also contribute by check or cash?

Participants are encouraged to make their donation online at www.ElPasoGivingDay.org by credit or debit card. Donations must go through the El Paso Giving Day website to be counted in the day’s totals and qualify for Prizes. While recurring donations are encouraged, only donations received on November 15 count towards the site total.

Q. Is there a limit to the amount that a nonprofit can receive on El Paso Giving Day?

No limits!

Q. When will my organization collect the funds raised during El Paso Giving Day?

Expect your donations to be arriving by mid-December. We are in the process of verifying the final disbursements which will be distributed to the organizations bank accounts as entered during the registration process. If your organization won a prize expect that money to be included into that disbursement. We are still pending matching dollars. As you know, El Paso Electric, Lauterbach & Borschow and ADP, are matching what their employees donated. They are still working on their accounting. So stay tuned.

Q. Do nonprofits need to issue thank you letters and tax receipts to their Giving Day donors?

Since El Paso Giving Day is a program of the Paso del Norte Foundation, an automatic donation confirmation and tax receipt will be emailed to the donor from the Paso del Norte Foundation. Nonprofits are encouraged to send prompt and thoughtful thank you’s to each donor.

Q. How does an organization know who has donated and how much they gave?

Thank you letters/tax receipts will be generated automatically and electronically as donors make their gifts online – also recognizing to which agencies their gifts are designated. Participating nonprofits can access their donor report through their GiveGab administrator dashboard.

Q. How do nonprofits get their donors excited and engaged leading up to El Paso Giving Day?

Attend El Paso Giving Day trainings over the summer and fall. Check the Nonprofit Toolkit and Resources tab frequently for great ideas, tips, logos and social media graphics!

Donor FAQ

Q. How do I donate?

Starting at midnight on November 15, go to ElPasoGivingDay.org and use a credit or debit card to donate to a single or to multiple nonprofits. You have a full 24 hours to make donations and can search for nonprofits by name or by category. Participating nonprofits have a profile page where you can choose the amount you want to donate; the minimum donation is $10.

Can't make it on November 15? You can give early starting on November 8.

Q. When can I donate?

Early giving begins November 8 (7:00 AM MT) and ends November 14 (11:59 PM MT). The official El Paso Giving Day (Live-event) giving starts at 12:00:00 AM MT November 15 and ends at midnight.

Q. What is early giving? And how do I make an early gift?

From November 8 through November 14, donors can make an early gift by simply visiting ElPasoGivingDay.org. You will receive an email confirmation and receipt that your gift was processed, but the site totals and leaderboards will not update until the official Giving Day begins on November 15.

Q. What forms of payment are accepted?

Credit and debit cards will be accepted on the ElPasoGivingDay.org website. While you can still make a check or cash donation directly to individual nonprofits, they will not be counted on ElPasoGivingDay.org and will be ineligible for Giving Day prizes.

Q. How will this appear on my credit card statement?

This will appear as 'Paso del Norte Foundation' on your credit card statement.

Q. Is the website secure?

Yes. Credit card transactions are secure and backed by a PCI Level 1 secure service provider, Stripe. Our technology partner, GiveGab, is the recognized technology leader for fundraising initiatives of this magnitude around the country.

Q. Are donations made tax deductible?

Yes! All donations are tax deductible. You will receive an email receipt from the Paso Del Norte Foundation immediately following your donation that can be used for tax purposes. No goods or services may be received in exchange for your gift.

Q. Can I give to more than one organization?

Yes, there is no limit to the number of organizations you can give to.

Q. How much of the donation goes to the nonprofit?

Nonprofits receive each of the gifts earmarked for their organization. There will be a processing fee, of 2.2% as is the practice for online giving. On the donation page, you are given the option to add the processing fee to your donation, so your nonprofit(s) will receive 100% of the gift!

Q. What organizations are participating in El Paso Giving Day?

There are many nonprofit organizations participating in El Paso Giving Day. Use the search bar in the top-right corner of the page to search by name, location, or cause.

Q. Does approval to participate in El Paso Giving Day mean that the Paso del Norte Foundation endorses each participating nonprofit's charitable purpose and programs?

El Paso Giving Day is proud to support thousands of donors as they come together on one day to give to their favorite nonprofits or to new causes near to their heart. We encourage you to find organizations that align with your passions and values. While the Paso del Norte Foundation does verify the charitable status of every nonprofit that participates in El Paso Giving Day, it does not screen or select organizations on the basis of their charitable purposes or their missions. Eligibility is based on providing services in our area and an organization's current status as a recognized Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity. Therefore, approval of an organization's participation does not constitute an endorsement of the organization or its mission by the Paso del Norte Foundation or any of our partners.
